The final phase of the project will have a 6.72km elevated corridor between Shil and Katai.
The corridor will be built parallel to the Diva-Panvel rail line and is expected to be completed by 2027. The first two phases of the project are expected to be completed by the end of 2024. This massive project will create a direct route between Navi Mumbai and the Kalyan-Dombivli region. Currently, commuters have to take a detour through Mahape or Thane to reach these areas. The project has been developed keeping in mind the growing population in areas around Kalyan like Dombivli, Vithalwadi, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur. It will improve regional connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan region. Furthermore, the freeway will cut travel time by up to 30 minutes between the two places.
As per The Times of India report, the project will feature two tunnels and an elevated road. Each twin tunnel will, reportedly, be 1.69km long and will have three lanes along with emergency lanes.
