Mumbai’s Versova Beach To Soon Get A ₹17 Crore Makeover With Eco-Friendly Trees, Jogging Tracks And Much More

Versova beach

Mumbai’s Versova Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Mumbai. The beach has rocky patches as well as white and black dry sand. It is home to Mumbai’s largest fishing community, the Koli community. This beautiful beach in Andheri is soon going to get a massive makeover. The harbour division of the Public Works Department is all set for this makeover, which will cost approximately 17 crore.

Mumbai’s Versova Beach Makeover

The PWD has finally received approval from the Mumbai suburban District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC). A tender was issued last week by PWD to build a jogging track, plant trees, and set up benches on the beach. There will also be a selfie point named “I love Versova.”

PWD’s coastal engineering department’s superintending engineer said that the department had built an anti-erosion bund. This was done to ensure that the water does not enter people’s houses. They are planning to plant eco-friendly trees, which will actually help reduce the velocity of the wind. There will also be benches and jogging tracks.

The Makeover Project Was Previously Halted

The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) had put a halt on the makeover of Mumbai’s Versova Beach in 2017. The project back then was taken up by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s slum board (MHADA). The makeover was refused on the grounds that it might affect the coastal ecology.

The body had planned to build walkways, watchtowers, statues, decorative lighting, fountains, benches for leisure, and a lit-up landscape zone with improved restrooms and tourism attractions. The area of Versova beach falls under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), which is why MCZMA refused the makeover.
