On Wednesday, Lufthansa aircraft LH 772 from Munich to Bangkok was forced to be diverted to Delhi. According to the sources, the reason behind this diversion was a dispute between a married couple in mid-air.

A couple’s disagreement resulted in the Lufthansa flight from Munich to Bangkok being diverted to Delhi on Wednesday, after which the passengers were allowed to disembark, according to official sources cited by news agency PTI.

The pilots of the Lufthansa aircraft alerted the ATC about the situation and the passengers. After alerting Air Traffic Control, at 10:26 am, the flight landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi.

The PTI report claims that a dispute broke out mid-air between a German man and his Thai wife. The dispute caused issues on board the Lufthansa flight. This prompted the airline to request permission to land at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

The sources added that this request was instantly granted after knowing the reason and the situation on the plane.  According to an official, the wife had initially complained to the pilot about her husband’s actions. The Thai woman had also claimed that he was threatening her. She sought intervention from the pilot.

After the couple disembarked from the aircraft, it is reported that CISF security officers, flight attendants, and other staff members spoke with them in the terminal area. Sources stated that the flight was scheduled to take off again shortly.

The airline spokesperson later said that the safety and security of all the passengers on board are the priority of the airline, and hence they decided to divert the flight in between.  (As per News 18)

According to a representative of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the airline and the German Embassy are in communication with the passenger.

A DGCA official told ANI that the decision over whether to turn him over to Indian law enforcement or to accept the apology and send him back to Germany is still pending.

The aircraft had originally requested permission to land at Pakistan’s nearby airport, but, for unknown reasons, this request was denied.

A man who was allegedly insulting a female staff member and causing havoc on Air India flight AI 102 from New York to Delhi was the subject of a case filed by Delhi Police last month. On October 1, the victim filed a complaint at the IGI Airport Police station in Delhi, leading to the registration of the case.
