New Delhi’s Rajpath & Central Vista Lawns To Be Renamed Kartavya Path And Here’s Why

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the revamped Rajpath and Central Vista Lawns on September 8. The historic road and area spanning the Netaji statue to the Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be called as Kartavya Path and not Rajpath. This is a move to leave behind the clutching of colonial India and walk towards an independent India. Read on to know more.

Rajpath Renamed As Kartavya Path

In a bid to do away with symbols highlighting colonial mindset, India has renamed Rajpath. Which was known as Kingsway during British Rule. After Independence it was just merely given a Hindi translation that still had colonial flavours. But now, it will be renamed as Kartaya Path. It can be seen that PM Modi had stressed on Indians performing their duties and also moving away from colonial symbols and nomenclature. So perhaps these are the reasons for its new name.

The entire road from Netaji’s statue to the Rashtrapati Bhavan is now officially known as Kartavya Path. The government earlier changed the name of the road where PM Modi resides from Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg. The redeveloped Central Vista Project includes pathways, vending zones, food stalls, parking, clean washrooms and more.
