New Rules At Bangalore’s Cubbon Park; Bans Food, PDA, Games & Photography

Cubbon Park is touted to be one of the lungs of Bangalore. Spread across 300 acres, this park gives Bangaloreans a refuge from the fast-paced city life. Time stops still when you sit under a tree here, walk leisurely along the pathway and listen to the chirping birds. Peppered with flowering trees, lush greenery and fountains, there’s no place quite like Cubbon Park in Bangalore. But things are about to change here as Cubbon Park has issued new rules which include banning food, PDAs, games and even photography.

Cubbon Park Has Strict Rules & Security Guards Are Keeping A Watch On Violators

According to a report by The Times Of India, Bangalore’s most-visited lung space has issued a new set of prohibitions. This comes after walkers have raised complaints about certain activities happening here— public displays of affection— that are inappropriate for children. Also, concerns like visitors littering the park and the greenery with food and games may have led to this decision, touted harsh, by many.

In order to ensure the new rules are followed, security guards are patrolling Cubbon Park with loudspeakers. They are blaring instructions and blowing whistles while patrolling. A security guard revealed to The Times Of India that romantic gestures of love aren’t the issue. Their primary concern is the safety of visitors. In his words, couples often spend time in the corners of the park, away from the public eye. And last week itself, they spotted a cobra at one of these spots, frequented by couples.

Walkers Happy, Visitors Unhappy

The new rule comes with mixed responses. Walkers agree with the new restrictions. The President of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, Umesh Kumar told TOI that people misuse the park by littering it with food and trampling the grass while playing games. The head of the 2500-member committee goes on to add that couples get too close for the comfort of others. So, guards need to be trained properly to tackle such incidents.

Well, parkgoers aren’t happy about it. Many have taken to social media to call these new rules at Cubbon Park killjoy. Netizens called it a sign of elitism and privilege. Others wondered if they can’t play frisbee, or have picnics in this park, then where else should they go?

Here’s hoping Cubbon Park rules find a mid-ground to satisfy both the walkers and the visitors.
