What’s the first thing you would do when the lockdown finally gets lifted? Will you go to your meet your loved ones, dine at your favourite restaurant, finally take a breath of fresh air or head to the nearest beach? While you’re busy pondering over what you’d do in this circumstance, the mayor of New Zealand’s Queenstown, Jim Boult has shown the way. The mayor went bungee jumping to celebrate the lifting of the lockdown in New Zealand.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced after days of lockdown that the country is ready to gradually start reopening from May 14. Businesses have been permitted to reopen across the country. The residents of the country are now permitted to visit malls, cafes, restaurants, retail stores, cinemas, public spaces including gyms and playgrounds from Thursday. And in order to celebrate this happy announcement, the mayor of Queenstown, Jim Boult went bungee jumping.

The excited mayor took a plunge from above the gorgeous Kawarau River. His early morning jump was the first since the seven-week lockdown at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy Centre. And this indicated the re-opening of the town’s tourism industry. Jim Boult remarked, “I’m delighted to be able to mark the reopening of this facility, even if it means jumping off a bridge first thing in the morning.” He further added that it wasn’t his first bungee jumping experience. The Queenstown mayor stressed that this town is New Zealand’s premier tourist attraction. He revealed that in a post coronavirus world, there would be an increased focus on domestic tourism that would bring a much-needed boost to the local economy and benefit thousands of locals. Jim Boult said, “I look forward to welcoming visitors to our district from across the country.”

Social Gatherings Of Only 10 People Or Less In New Zealand

Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand stated that few measures and guidelines would be put into place as the country heads for a ‘new normal’ while maintaining social distancing. She informed that social gatherings of only 10 people or less would be allowed.
