“No Red Flags Or Maintenance Issue In Aircraft,” Air India Chairman On Crash Speculations

During a recent interview, Tata Sons and Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran apologised for the devastating Air India crash in Ahmedabad. He addressed all the speculations and maintained that there were no red flags during aircraft maintenance and requested people to wait for the probe to conclude.

Tata Sons and Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran issued an apology for the June 12 Ahmedabad crash that claimed over 270 lives. During an interview with Times Now, he said that he “deeply regrets that this accident happened in a Tata-run airline.” He also asked people to wait for the probe results to know what actually went wrong in the aircraft.

During his first public appearance after the fatal Ahmedabad crash, Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran spoke his heart out. While talking to Times Now, he said, “ I feel very sorry. All we can do is to be with the families at this time, grieve with them and we will do everything to support them at this hour and beyond.”

Showing full support for the pilots involved in the Air India crash, he said that they were both “exceptional”. He mentioned, “Captain Sabharwal had more than 11,500 hours of flying experience, the first officer Clive Kundar had more than 3,400 hours of flying experience. What I hear from colleagues is that they were excellent pilots and great professionals.”

He also spoke about the aircraft involved in the crash. N Chandrasekaran shared that there were no prior red flags or maintenance issues. He maintained that while the investigation of allegations against Boeing’s 787 manufacturing process is underway, the aircraft has been flying for years and has not shown any issues. For now, he said we must wait for the aircraft’s black box and recorders to be revived as they will unveil the truth in this tragic incident.

Addresses The Various Speculations

N Chandrasekaran also addressed the many speculation and crash theories around the Air India Ahmedabad plane crash. He said he is aware of the speculation “about human error, airlines, engines, and maintenance.” However, he requested people to wait for the probe to conclude, refrain from such speculations, and look into facts to understand what went wrong in the first place.

He also mentioned that the aircraft had no history of issues. Explaining the engine details, the Air India chairman shared that the right side engine of the aircraft was new and installed in March 2025. Furthermore, the left engine was last serviced in 2023 and was only due for maintenance in December 2025.
