It’s cliche but a matter of truth to say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s a meal that sets the course, one’s energy levels and even mood for the rest of the day. But more often than not, we end up slacking. Taking time to cook a healthy breakfast from scratch can seem cumbersome. A nutritionist took to Instagram to inform us that the shortcuts we take in our morning meals have detrimental short and long-term effects on our health. Read on to learn about the four foods she urges us to abstain from especially for breakfast.

Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain shared a reel on Instagram, revealing four food items we must never have for breakfast. In her caption, she stresses that these food items can add some unnecessary calories to our meals and even cause sugar spikes and weight gain.

The first food item she lists is fruit juice or smoothie. The reason? Both fruit juices and smoothies lack fibre and this will rapidly spike one’s blood sugar. Also, Jain says in her reel that consuming it the first day in the morning can leave one hungrier throughout the day.
Tea or coffee is the second food item she asks you to stay away from in the morning. This is a bummer! Many of us are accustomed to drinking chai or coffee with our breakfast. However, these beverages reduce the absorption of important nutrients like calcium, zinc and iron.

What’s the third food item you need to stay away from for brekkie? It’s flavoured yoghurt. You may assume yoghurt is packed with probiotics, so it’s super healthy. However, flavoured yoghurt, like other packaged food items has both added sugar and artificial sugar in it. So, like fruit juices and smoothies, consuming flavoured yoghurt first thing in the morning will not leave you satiated.

The fourth food item to keep away from your breakfast plates is cereals. A quick, convenient and easy-to-make option, cereal is a beloved brekkie snack across the world. However, it does more harm than good for one’s health. Cereal lacks fibre, protein and fats. Loaded with sugar, cereals will destabilise your blood sugar leaves and leave you hungrier throughout the day.
So, now that you have a brekkie disclaimer by a nutritionist, will you change your breakfast pattern for the better?
