Operation Ajay: Evacuation Of Indians Continues From Israel; 4th Flight Returns With 274 People

Amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Indian government today conducted the fourth evacuation from Israel. This was the second flight that arrived in a day and the fourth one overall. This fourth flight carried 274 Indian people arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Sunday as part of ‘Operation Ajay,’ which was launched to rescue Indians from war-torn Israel.

Evacuation From Israel Continues

Since the outbreak of the war, India has rescued 918 of its citizens from Israel. The fourth group of 274 Indians was returned in the early hours of October 15. Three previous aircraft from Israel have returned 644 Indian nationals. On October 14, the third flight from Tel Aviv carried 197 Indian nationals, while the first charter flight from Israel carried 212 individuals and the second carried 235 Indian citizens.

The flight that came on October 15 was the fourth flight since the launch of the special operation. It departed from Israel’s Ben Gurion airport at 11.45 pm local time. As part of ‘Operation Ajay’, the special program was launched to rescue Indians from war-torn Israel.

On Thursday, the first charter flight from Israel carried 212 passengers. The second round of 235 Indian nationals arrived late Friday. So far, 918 Indian citizens have been airlifted out of Israel.

More About Operation Ajay

The special planes are part of an effort that began on October 12 to help Indian people who want to return home. “As part of #OperationAjay, Indian nationals still in Israel who wish to travel back to India are urgently requested to complete the attached travel form,” the Indian Embassy in Israel said on X. Under Operation Ajay, travel spaces are assigned on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

According to India Today, around 18,000 Indian nationals live and work in Israel, including carers, students, IT professionals, and diamond traders. The continuing violence between the Israeli army and Hamas militants forced Indians to leave Israel voluntarily.

The unexpected attack by Hamas militants on October 7 killed around 1,300 Israelis, while Israeli counter-airstrikes killed at least 1,900 in Gaza. Moreover, the Israel-Hamas conflict has attracted international attention and efforts to find a peaceful resolution.
