While flying, it’s not uncommon to see the cabin crew members offering refreshments and other stuff to passengers to make their journey more appealing. However, sometimes their experience of flying to many destinations and servicing hundreds of people can often lead to them developing a sixth sense. Something similar happened on the Air India flight AI99, which was flying from Jeddah to Delhi. A passenger was arrested when he arrived at the Delhi Airport. The reason for this is that he kept declining the flight attendants’ offer of refreshments.
Passenger Bust For Carrying Gold Paste On Air India Flight
According to a report by My Pune Pulse, a passenger kept refusing all the food and drinks during the 5.5 hours of flight. Flying on an Air India flight, the behaviour raised suspicion for flight attendant. After this, she alerted the flight captain who then relayed this information to security agencies via Air Traffic Control. Once the alert was received, the custom preventive team was prepared as the flight landed. When the plane landed at Delhi Airport, this passenger was closely monitored and stopped.
He Raised Suspicions For Refusing Food
He tried to cross the green customs clearance channel, but on interrogation, the passenger admitted to carrying smuggled gold paste. This had been hiding in his rectum! After this, the passenger removed 4 egg-sized capsules, which contained the gold paste from his body. As a result, about 1,096 g of gold was seized from the capsules, which were valued at INR 69,16,169.

In case you’re wondering how this whole bust happened, it’s worth mentioning that flight crews are asked to keep an eye on passengers who refuse to eat or drink during flight. This is often considered suspicious, as passengers might be carrying contraband for smuggling purposes. This is not an isolated incident! Every month, customs bust several attempts by syndicates and individuals, who try to smuggle gold into the country from foreign.
This note-worthy action by the flight attendant certainly requires appreciation.
