Peak Mumbai: ₹1.35L Flat With ₹4L Deposit & Washing Machine Above Commode Goes Viral; Netizens Say, “Tenants Can Have A Tumble Bath”

If there is one thing that Mumbai is known for, it is for its skyrocketing rent for matchbox apartments. Countless people have shared testimonies online of cramped apartments that cost a bomb each month. Someone recently became the latest to share a similar account. This post wasn’t particularly about the cramped space but rather, about a unique feature in the bathroom – a washing machine above the commode – and, of course, about the sky-high rent.

Peak Mumbai: ₹1.35 Lakh Per Month With ₹4 Lakh Deposit

The post was made on X (formerly known as Twitter) and it showed an apartment listed for rent. The apartment, as per the post, was located in the Pali Hill region of Mumbai. Surprisingly, (but really, unsurprisingly), the rent of the apartment was a whopping ₹1.35 lakh per month!

And that’s not all, in addition to the exorbitant rent, in order to get this apartment, you also have to pay a deposit of ₹4 lakh! Yes, you read that right. And after paying such a huge amount of money, if you’re expecting to live in a mini Saltburn-like palace, forget it.

The picture along with the listing of the apartment’s bathroom showed a unique feature. The washing machine was smack on top of the commode! Needless to say, this feature tickled the funny bones of the Internet and they had a field day making fun of it.

Netizens Reactions To Washing Machine Above Commode

One commenter sarcastically imitated the discriminatory remark often heard by many and blamed the “immigrants.” One other commenter worried about the structural integrity of the building given the awkward positioning of the washing machine.

Yet another commenter said that tenants could have a tumble bath if they wanted to. One commenter pointed out that the washing machine was so placed so that the dirty water from the washing machine could help flush the toilet, thus saving water.
