It has not been too long since Japan lifted the COVID-19-related restrictions. The Asian nation is currently getting hit by new cases of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. It is a deadly disease caused by a rare flesh-eating bacteria and many suffering patients die within only 2 days. Cases are increasing rapidly and spreading in different parts of Japan. This year, a total of 977 cases of this illness have been reported till June 2.

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases stated that Japan recorded 941 cases of this fatal illness in 2023. People are becoming aware and getting scared as cases recorded till June 2 this year have already exceeded last year’s record numbers. Once affected, the life-threatening flesh-eating bacteria can take away a person’s life within just 48 hours. It is deadly and something worse may happen if cases spread among the masses rapidly and continuously.

The current condition raises a thought in everyone’s mind. What is the reason behind the sudden uptick of this highly fatal bacteria? Unfortunately, the exact reason behind it is yet to be known. From January to March, about 77 patients passed away because of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, according to a report by CNN.

Japan is not the only country worldwide to record cases of this disease caused by flesh-eating bacteria. 5 countries in Europe noticed a rise in group A streptococcus cases back in 2022, according to a report by Business Today. Just like Japan, these affected places began to report the surge right after easing and ending restrictions for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Is There Any Solution To This Disease Caused By Flesh-Eating Bacteria Spreading In Japan?

There are several symptoms of this highly fatal disease. Two of the most common concerns among children are swelling and sore throat. Group A Streptococcus is the reason behind these health issues. Other common symptoms are high fever, organ failure, respiratory issues, swelling, necrosis, pain, and low blood pressure. It is extremely necessary to stay careful at this alarming time and take preventive measures to protect yourself.

  • The first step is to notice any changes in your body. If you have any wound, make sure you get no redness or swelling around it. Consult a doctor as soon as possible in cases of any such problem.
  • According to a report by The Indian Express, cleanliness and hygiene are major factors.
  • Make sure to keep your hands clean. Wash your hands frequently.
  • If you have any skin injury, do not leave it behind. Seek medical assistance.
