Monsoon is no longer just about staying indoors and watching the rain. For many travellers, it has become the perfect season to plan a getaway and explore new destinations. The latest data from Cleartrip highlights a growing interest in monsoon travel across India. Read on to know more!
Where Are Indians Travelling To In The Monsoon?
According to Cleartrip’s Peekaboo Trends Tracker, monsoon travel has seen strong growth this year. Hotel bookings increased by more than 54%, while bus bookings recorded a massive 140% jump. Rather than just travelling to popular destinations, travellers are now looking for different experiences.
During the monsoon season, many people are travelling to the Northeast region. Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh have emerged as the top choices for travellers. Flight bookings to these destinations increased by 62%, while hotel bookings surged by more than 90% year-on-year. Other destinations in the region also saw strong growth. Hotel bookings in Shillong increased by over 65%, while Guwahati recorded a rise of more than 60%. Flight bookings to Itanagar jumped by over 70%, while Jorhat and Imphal saw growth of more than 50%.

Which Hill Stations Witnessed Strong Growth?
During the monsoon, hill stations also saw massive growth. Wayanad recorded the highest growth in hotel bookings at over 160%, followed by Alleppey with more than 145% growth. Popular hill stations such as Kodaikanal and Ooty also witnessed strong demand. Hotel bookings in these destinations increased by over 70%.
Other places that many Indians are visiting include Goa, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, and Udaipur, which witnessed growth of 110%, 104%, 85%, and 50%, respectively.
As for Gen Z travellers, Tajikistan emerged as a popular destination, recording over 245% growth year-on-year. Lakshadweep also recorded more than 80% growth, while Muscat and the Philippines saw growth of over 70%. Hubli and Leh recorded growth exceeding 65%, while Tashkent reported an increase of over 54%. For train travel, Gen Z accounted for 45% of bookings, followed by millennials at 28%.
