Posting A Picture Of Your Boarding Pass On Social Media Is A Bad Idea & Here’s Why

We all have at least once posted a picture of our boarding pass on social media. The reasons may vary. Some might have posted it marking their first flight ever while others marking their most awaited trip. But ask privacy experts and they will tell you how bad this idea is. Here is why posting a picture of your boarding pass is not at all a good idea.

Your Barcode Holds It All

You can spot a barcode along with the passenger’s name, flight number and seat arrangement printed on the pass. That little barcode contains your identification details. It contains all the information from your driving license to passport number which is needed to be provided at the airport. That is why if you have a barcode on any document do not simply trash it.

Don’t Throw, Shred It

The information in the barcode can be used skillfully and lead to identity theft. The most simple step to prevent this is not to share your barcode with anyone or anywhere in any form. The best way to dispose of a document with a barcode on it is to shred it.

If Digital, Screenshot And Save

If you think digital boarding passes are safe, then that is not true. Digital boarding passes are too unsafe if used in an airline app or loyalty app. These apps are at the risk of the first party or third party tracking. Hence the safest way is to take a screenshot of the QR code of the mobile boarding pass and save it without letting any third-party app access it.
