President Droupadi Murmu, on a three-nation tour, visited the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi, Fiji. On Wednesday morning, she offered prayers at this renowned Hindu temple. This visit marks a significant moment in her state visit to the Pacific region.

President Murmu Visits Temple In Fiji During Three-Nation Tour

Earlier that day, President Murmu addressed the Indian community in Fiji. According to reports by Times Now, she highlighted the strong ties between India and Fiji, a relationship that has endured for 145 years. She praised the Indian diaspora in Fiji, describing them as a “source of inspiration” for the entire world. She expressed her pleasure at meeting members of the Indian community during her travels abroad.

Times Now reported that, in her speech, President Murmu emphasised India’s efforts to strengthen connections with its diaspora. She lauded the introduction of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards. These cards aim to deepen ties between India and its global diaspora.

The President also spoke about India’s role on the international stage. She mentioned the country’s leadership during its G-20 Presidency. She described India’s leadership as inclusive, decisive, ambitious, and action-oriented. She expressed India’s commitment to voicing the interests of the Global South. She pledged to work towards a fair, equitable, and secure world for future generations.

Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple

Visiting the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi offers a profound cultural and spiritual experience. The final leg of her tour will take her to Timor-Leste. This visit is at the invitation of the President of Timor-Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta. It marks the first head-of-state-level visit from India to Timor-Leste. In Timor-Leste, she will meet Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.
