Gas leak incidents can be tragic and devastating. In an unfortunate turn of events, a food processing unit in Pune reported a horrifying ammonia gas leak. The accident was reported on Wednesday in the Yavat area of Pune district. People present at the ready-to-eat food preparation plant sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Narayan Deshmukh, Police Inspector of Yavat police station shared necessary details about the terrifying accident. According to a report by The Indian Express, gas leaked from the cooling unit of the food processing unit. It was on Wednesday morning when the hazardous incident occurred. The gas leak accident in Bhandgaon injured 17 of the 25 staff present. Most of the staff members were women.

The affected people started feeling unwell following the ammonia gas leak. They were suffering from health issues such as breathing problems, shortness of breath, and ammonia poisoning. All of them were admitted to a hospital at the earliest. 16 of them are currently in a better state. Their conditions are stable now. Unfortunately, one of them has been shifted to the ICU.

According to a report by India Today, this woman was present nearest to the main leakage point of the food processing plant. She had exposure to ammonia gas directly. Though she is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), she is out of danger and staying under observation and monitoring, according to multiple reports.

An Inspection Is Underway

The Police Inspector of Yavat police station shared about an investigation to look into the matter. A police team reached the accident spot to take control of the terrifying situation.

After the incident of an ammonia gas leak was reported in one of the food processing unit’s sections, its main regulator was turned off.
