The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given the green light to the Raxaul-Haldia expressway project, a massive undertaking aimed at boosting connectivity and economic development across Bihar, Jharkhand and Nepal. This brand new, 6-lane expressway will stretch for 719 kilometres, starting at Raxaul on the Nepal border and culminating at Haldia Port in West Bengal.
Raxaul-Haldia Expressway Project Approved
The project promises a significant reduction in travel times. Deoghar residents can now expect to reach Patna and Kolkata in just three hours, a stark improvement from current travel durations. This expedited travel is thanks in part to the construction of a brand new bridge across the Ganga River, connecting Suryagarha to Malaypur.
The government will build an expressway entirely from scratch, bypassing existing roads. The expressway is estimated to cost ₹60,000 crores. This “greenfield” approach ensures a completely new infrastructure that caters to the demands of modern transportation.

Vibrant Economic Corridor
Deoghar stands to benefit greatly from its inclusion in the expressway’s path. A faster flow of goods and improved connections for residents will spur significant industrial and economic growth in the region.
Nishikant Dubey, MP for Godda, hailed the project’s approval as a testament to the “Modi Guarantee.” As per reports by Delhi Breakings, he highlighted the expressway’s potential to create a new industrial corridor. This will directly link Bihar and Jharkhand to the Haldia Port. This corridor promises to be a boon for transporting minerals mined in the region. It will also strengthen ties with Nepal and boost tourism.
Beyond Deoghar, the expressway will create a vibrant economic corridor throughout its path. Improved connectivity with the Haldia Port will unlock new economic opportunities and tourism prospects for both Bihar and Jharkhand. The construction of new bridges and roads will further contribute to the overall infrastructure development of the region.
The Raxaul-Haldia expressway is a landmark project with the potential to transform the economic landscape of the region. With faster travel times, improved connectivity, and a brand-new infrastructure, this expressway promises a brighter future for Bihar, Jharkhand and Nepal.
