Over the years, we have become so used to ordering food and groceries online that interacting with delivery partners has become common. However, there has been an increase in food delivery scams. A Redditor recently posted about his experience with a Swiggy rider in Gurgaon where the delivery man tried to scam him for money. When he tried to politely refuse and turned him away by saying he would do it later, the Swiggy driver allegedly entered his home and became quite aggressive. The man felt “horribly unsafe” because of this encounter and reported him to Swiggy.
Redditor Shares His Horrible Experience With Swiggy Driver In Gurgaon
In a post shared on Reddit by @DefinitelyMaybeX, the man shared his horrible experience with a Swiggy driver in Gurgaon. In a detailed post, the Redditor explained how he ordered his lunch via the Swiggy app. When he opened the door to collect his order, he found a “sobbing and sweating” delivery guy waiting for him on the other end. The delivery guy then begged the man to lend him ₹5,000 for an emergency operation for his pregnant wife. To reassure the Redditor, the Swiggy driver was even ready to give him his bike keys.
In his post, @DefinitelyMaybeX said that there were many “red flags” in the man’s story but he did not want to turn him down right away. So, he asked for the driver’s number and said he would call him and give him the money later. What made the man even more suspicious was the Swiggy driver’s insistence on transferring the money to a specific QR code. The man then shut the door and went inside.

When the man tried calling the number a few minutes later, it turned out to be nonexistent. This further confirmed the man’s suspicion that this whole situation was a scam. Sadly, it did not end there. Just sometime after the whole scene, the Swiggy driver came back to the man’s flat, entered his unlocked home, and became aggressive. He shouted and banged his door and screamed, “Sir dena hai toh do, jhootha bharosa mat dilao.” Thankfully the man was inside his room and was quick to lock it. He then threatened the Swiggy driver and asked him to leave or he would call security.
When the driver finally left, the Redditor complained about him to Swiggy. He said he felt “horribly unsafe” throughout this situation. He even advised people not to open doors for delivery seeing the number of scams increasing every day.

This is truly a saddening and horrifying situation. The man was able to handle it well but it does make us wonder “What if?” Please be extra careful while picking up deliveries and be alert about any such situation and scam!
