Restaurant Owner Killed In Noida: Food Delivery Agents Complain Of Poor Treatment & Pressure To Meet Unrealistic Demands

In a very shocking incident, the owner of a food delivery restaurant in Greater Noida was allegedly shot dead by a delivery boy after a dispute broke out in delay in the order. However, in a massive turn of events, the police said that the delivery boy was not involved in the crime. Instead, three others are accused of the same. While it is unclear what led to the chaos, we do know that the delivery agents work under tremendous pressure which escalates to rage and confusion. The employees are now taking to social media to raise their voices against unfair treatment.

The Delivery Boys Are Protesting Against Lack Of Pay And Poor Treatment

Swiggy and Zomato delivery agents who have earlier protested in traditional ways are now taking to social media to raise their voices. In the tweets, they have detailed the poor treatment of the delivery boys, lack of compensation, and skyrocketing petrol prices. They have also raised questions about the lack of long-distance return bonuses, and daily earning caps. Many users have retweeted their posts in their support.

The Food Delivery Platforms Have Slashed The Salary Of Delivery Agents By 50%

Despite the funding and the investment, the companies have slashed the payment by up to 60% since the pandemic. While many have raised their voices many are opting to stay quiet due to fear of losing their jobs. The delivery boys have complained that the increasing petrol fares have shot up their delivery expenses and the companies are not ready to compensate them enough.

Long Working Hours And Tremendous Work Pressure

In a tweet, a 30-year-old delivery partner in Mumbai working with Zomato for three years said that the company has slashed pay by up to 50%. He mentioned that he earns up to ₹15,000 even after working for 12 hours, six days a week. Not only that, they are under tremendous pressure to deliver the food hot and on time. The rush and the hurry have even led to road accidents.

And while we still don’t know what caused the death of the restaurant owner in Noida, it’s high time we hear the delivery agents’ part of the story and be patient while dealing with them.
