Rishikesh, which receives a large number of tourists all around the year has been facing tremendous traffic snarls for some time due to the lack of enough parking spaces. Addressing the issue, the Uttarakhand administration is mulling over the construction of hi-tech parking spaces in the hill station. The Garhwal commissioner has directed the Rishikesh Municipal Corporation to search out space for building a parking lot. Reportedly, a parking lot might come up in the vicinity of Chandrabhaga Bridge.

Locals And Tourists Complained Of Long Traffic Jams In Rishikesh

While over lakhs of national and international tourists come to Rishikesh, many do not take a halt in the city due to long traffic jams. Many locals have often complained about these traffic problems. Long queues of vehicles on the hilly roads result in slow traffic movement. The stretch between Haridwar and Rishikesh especially get crammed with tourist vehicles. According to a News18 report, Somak Mukherjee, who had visited Rishikesh after the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic said that it took him more than three hours to reach Rishikesh from Haridwar. The travel time between Rishikesh and Haridwar without the traffic could be just around 40 minutes.
