2020 has been nothing but uncertain due to the covid-19 virus. With social distancing and other rules in place, travelling and daily commuting became different too. Like before, we are not relaxed when we hail a cab- the covid scare still exists. And if you are someone who used Dubai taxis or public transport daily, then we have something for you. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that, in collaboration with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and other health authorities, a Covid-19 vaccine is administered to all the eligible taxi and public transport drivers.
As Per RTA, More Than 20,000 Drivers in Dubai Have Received Covid-19 Vaccine
It accounts for more than 20,000 drivers of Dubai Taxi’s, buses, trams and the Metro. RTA released a video on Twitter to announce this news. The video shows several drivers receiving the covid jab. The clip ends by stating- your safety and the safety of our employees are our top priority.

On this, Nada Jasim, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning, Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, RTA said,
“RTA prepared two internal centres in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority and other Authorities; one for vaccinating taxi and bus drivers from 19 January to March 2021 and the other for vaccinating other employees as of 3 February 2021. About 40,000 vaccination shots have been provided for various categories including drivers, front-end staff, metro and tram operators, parking inspectors and all employees along with their interested family members.”
The UAE Has Already Vaccinated Half Of Its Population
Well, if you think that the campaign covered only cabbies and bus/metro drivers, then you must know that it also covered outsourcing employees, school bus drivers, Bike Delivery riders and limo drivers as part of efforts to ensure the health and safety of all.
The UAE has vaccinated half of its population already and has one of the highest per capita inoculation rates in the world. While UAE has got the vaccine for the covid-19 virus, the cases are still growing in the country, so don’t forget to practice social distancing and wear a face mask at all times when outside the home.
