Sachin is a sneaky leopard housed in the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in the Katraj region of Pune. Recently, this mischievous leopard escaped its enclosure in Katraj Zoo on Monday, March 4, 2024. Since then, authorities have been trying to capture the escaped beast. They were finally successful today. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this four-legged escape artist’s day out in the sun!

Katraj Zoo Leopard Captured After A 40-Hr Hunt By Authorities

According to an article which was recently published by the Pune Pulse, the leopard managed to evade capturing attempts for a whopping 40 hours. As a matter of fact, it took as many as 150 of the staff from Pune Municipal Corporation or PMC to accomplish this feat!

Yes, you read that right! It escaped on Monday and since then, the authorities have been engaged in an intense pursuit of the leopard. It was a collaborative endeavour and the fire brigade teams from Chinchwad and Pimpri in addition to Pune also lent a hand.

There was a fear that the leopard would manage to escape the zoo and the city would be gripped with panic. Fortunately, however, this was not the case. The leopard was found within the confines of the zoo.

How Did The Authorities Manage To Capture The Beast?

The authorities had to make a lot of effort to capture the leopard. Advanced technology like thermal cameras, drones, hydraulic ladders and much more. In addition to deploying these high-tech measures, the authorities also set up traps.

A total of three traps were set up within the zoo. They were placed in bushy areas where the grass was at least four or five feet tall. The leopard’s escape was facilitated by the manipulation of its cage bars and authorities will make sure that any other lapse in security does not happen again.
