As Hajj 2026 coincides with the last days of spring. And now, it is being said that the pilgrimage will return to the summer season after approximately 25 years. Are you also wondering why? Well, this is exactly what we are here to tell you about and here’s all about the pilgrimage returning to summer seasons.
Hajj 2026 Coincides With Last Days Of Spring
It is a known fact that the Islamic lunar calendar is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. As a result, dates of rituals tend to shift annually through the four seasons. In fact, as revealed in a news report, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, who is the Chairman of the Board of Emirates Astronomy Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, mentions how Hajj seasons from 2018 to 2025 coincided with some of the hottest and driest summer periods. After all, the pilgrimage took place in the months of May, June, July, and August. These months are known for extreme temperatures.
Pilgrimage Moves To Milder Temperature
He further mentioned how 2026 marks the beginning of the graduate transition towards mild weather conditions. Yes, it coincides with the final days of spring and represents almost a farewell season to the summer Hajj conditions. And now this pilgrimage will move away from peak summer heat for nearly 25 years. The pilgrimage is expected to return to the summer season after 2050.

From 2034, It Will Enter Winter Season
It is expected that from 2029 onwards will fully occur during the spring season and is expected to fall in April. And from 2034 onwards, it will enter the winter season, which coincides with February. It is expected that the pilgrimage will remain within cooler winter conditions until 2040. The lower temperature will also reduce the risk that is often associated with heatstroke and heat exhaustion. As a result, it will offer greater flexibility in movement between the holy sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.
The average summer in Mecca typically ranges between 43°C during the daytime and 28°C for nighttime lows. Not to mention, summer nights are also exceptionally warm, and the temperature rarely drops below 28°C or 30°C. June is generally the hottest month in terms of peak temperature. In fact, August also tends to be slightly less hot, but more humid.
So the peak extreme summer heat will no longer coincide with Hajj for at least a few years.
