A hybrid between a physically built structure and extended reality, the ambitious project is a part of Saudi Vision 2030. The KSA Micro Living Airport is a project that was created by Mariana Cabugueira (MC Studios). Proposed to be a new world connector in Riyadh, this is certainly going to be a unique way of travelling. The ambitious project blends Saudi Culture with futuristic technology, including immersive technology, extended reality and artificial intelligence. It’s bound to create an unparalleled travel environment.
At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the design process uses a hybrid workflow. It creates a continuous HUMAN-AI feedback loop that informs the architecture and the project. In the early stages, the AI image generation tools have been used to rethink traditional effort design. The goal was to find the most optimised layout that guarantees efficiency and also meets the demand of modern travel.

Talking about the airport, it is expected to be spread across 30 km² and may feature six parallel runways and 6 km² of indoor and outdoor spaces. These spaces will be dedicated to living, working, entertaining, and sleeping. Not to mention, it is all set to become one of the most innovative concepts in the world! The Head-house Terminal is at the core of the airport’s master plan. This has been inspired by the iconic Arabic urban grid with its integrated and futuristic interior. They are in for social connection to the city with the 6 km² of night-stay apartments, dining, lifestyle, shopping, entertainment, business spaces, and even dedicated areas for daycare and adults.
At this point, it’s worth mentioning that with an increase in profitability of hospitality, entertainment and retail by 70%, the micro living concept extends pre-flight experiences. The unique feature of the airport happens to be the seamless underground experience of the transition from the head house to the sunken boarding gate. It is also said to be the world’s smartest airport, it integrates facilities and premises in the future technology. Yes, this airport is expected to integrate automation through AGI, Quantum AI, and AI+AR.
