Sayyida Khadija Mosque is no ordinary place of worship. Spanning a colossal 49,383 square metres, it beautifully combines Fatimid architectural elegance with modern elements. The mosque offers a central dome with a 10-metre diameter, flanked by two smaller domes and minarets that stretch 40 metres into the sky. Inside, it can accommodate 1,400 men in the main prayer hall, 1,325 worshippers in the outer portico, and 140 women in a dedicated prayer area.
The mosque’s design also prioritises sustainability, with energy-saving and water-conservation technologies woven into its infrastructure. A serene library and well-equipped ablution areas further enhance the spiritual experience for worshippers.
More Than A Mosque, A Community-Centric Vision
What truly sets Sayyida Khadija Mosque apart is its integration with the surrounding community. Adjacent to the mosque lies the Al Ruwaidat Cemetery, thoughtfully designed to facilitate respectful and seamless burial procedures. The cemetery spans 639,931 square metres and features paved roads, spacious parking, and well-organised facilities to ease the process for families during times of mourning.
To support grieving families, the mosque offers two condolence halls, each accommodating 60 people. Additionally, a state-of-the-art mortuary building includes separate washing areas for men and women, ensuring privacy and dignity. The facility’s streamlined design reflects Sharjah’s emphasis on efficiency, compassion, and respect for Islamic traditions.
The inauguration ceremony saw Sheikh Dr Sultan unveiling a commemorative plaque and inspecting the mosque’s and cemetery’s facilities. He later joined worshippers for the Maghrib prayer, marking the mosque’s spiritual commencement.
During the event, Sheikh Dr Salem Al-Doubi delivered a moving sermon, emphasising the profound societal and spiritual impact of mosques. He commended His Highness for continuously championing initiatives that foster community well-being and spiritual growth.
