Sheikh Mohammed Visits The World’s Largest Vertical Farm In Dubai

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai visited the world’s largest vertical farm in Dubai. He visited Emirates Crop One (ECO 1) and on his tour to the vertical farm, he was introduced to many innovative technologies used in hydroponic farms. Sheikh Mohammed later spoke about how these innovative technologies talk about their commitment to food security.

Sheikh Mohammed visited the recently opened, world’s largest vertical farm in Dubai. He received a briefing on the cutting-edge technologies powering the modern hydroponic farm. According to Sheikh Mohammed, the innovative programme shows how the nation is  dedicated to promoting resilient agricultural methods and sustainable production systems. UAE has kept its food security at the greatest levels possible. They are doing this by implementing one of the most comprehensive plans in the world. Sheikh Mohammed said that in order to make food supply more sustainable and quick, they will keep making investments in the right technology and people.

Emirates Crop One (ECO 1)

Emirates Crop One (ECO 1),  world’s largest vertical farm in Dubai is a joint venture between Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) and Crop One. The farm is spread across 330,000 sq ft and cost $40 million. The farm uses 95 percent less water than traditional agriculture and can produce 1,000,000 kgs of high quality leafy greens. The farm is currently producing kale, spinach, arugula and varieties of lettuce. The hydroponic facility is Located at Dubai World Central  near Al Maktoum International Airport and easily provides 3,000kg of output per day. The green produce will be used to serve passengers on Emirates flights. It will also be available for people of UAE under the brand name, Bustanica.
