Shirdi & Shegaon To Get Food Street Hubs Serving Hygienic & Nutritious Meals To Pilgrims

At pilgrimage destinations across India, adequate accommodation, food, and sanitation facilities are required. In what seems to be a major source of happiness and relief for pilgrims, the spiritual destination of Shirdi in Maharashtra will soon be home to a food street. Along with Shirdi, Shegaon, which holds the samadhi (resting place) of Hindu saint Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj, will also have a similar food street hub.

Shirdi & Shegaon Receive ₹1 Crore For Food Street Hub Project

According to a report by The Times of India, the Central government has approved the development of food street hubs in two pilgrimage destinations in Maharashtra — Shirdi and Shegaon that lie in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, respectively. This project is being developed and overseen jointly by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Union Health Ministry.

Part of the national food safety initiative, the food street hubs will give a major boost to pilgrimage amenities at religious destinations in India. It will be rolled out in 100 locations in India. Moreover, Shirdi and Shegaon will receive ₹1 crore each to develop food street hubs.

What pilgrims can expect from the food street hubs is clean, hygienic and nutritious food that is prepared and handled as per standardised safety norms. This initiative by the government aims to curb foodborne illnesses and boost the overall quality of meals at high-footfall religious destinations.
