Sikkim’s allure lies in its unique blend of culture, weather, and scenic locales, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and cultural aficionados alike. The culture, climate, and picturesque locations of the Himalayan regions have drawn record numbers of visitors to the state of Sikkim. Tourism and Civil Aviation Department statistics show that Sikkim witnessed an unparalleled spike in tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2024.

Up till March 31, 2024, 2,90,401 tourists—2,56,537 domestic guests and 30,864 overseas visitors—were welcomed in Sikkim. The rebuilding of Sikkim’s hospitality industry, which suffered tremendously from the devastating flash floods in October 2023, has been credited with the increase in arrivals.

Over the past ten years, there has been a steady increase in the number of visitors, according to data from Tourism Sikkim. The number of visitors increased from 576,749 in 2013 to 1,625,573 in 2023. After a strong start in 2024, estimates suggest that, should the current growth rate continue, 1.2 million tourists might visit the destination by year’s end.
