Since 300 Years, MP’s Malajpur Temple Hosts World’s Only Ghost Fair. Not For The Faint-Hearted

Shh…koi hai! Ke nahi, we don’t know yet but visiting this temple in Madhya Pradesh will send a chill down your spine. In the quiet village of Malajpur, the three weeks of Magh month, from the end of January to the middle of February, are not so quiet. Every year, the Malajpur Ghost Fair takes place at Malajpur Temple and people from all over the world attend it. Why you ask? To undergo exorcism and other supernatural purification rituals as the area around this temple is filled with shrieks and ghostly behaviour by the people who are supposedly possessed.

Madhya Pradesh’s Malajpur Temple Hosts Malajpur Ghost Fair Every Year

The sighting of Magha Purnima marks the beginning of the Malajpur Ghost Fair. For more than 300 years, it has drawn allegedly possessed human beings to Madhya Pradesh’s Malajpur Temple to get purified. It takes place at the tomb of Gurusahab Baba who was a revered Hindu saint.

This village has many tales regarding ghost encounters and is not new to the supernatural world. To get rid of the evil spirits from the living beings, this fair has many cures to offer. Vasant Panchami is an auspicious day for the people of India but in this village, it is not as auspicious as you think. It is believed that during this festival when Malajpur is opening up for its fair, the departed souls cluster here.

Hence, this fair is not for the faint-hearted because the atmosphere at Malajpur Temple is ghastly. To free the nasty souls, local priests perform exorcism rituals. This includes chanting prayers loudly, beating the possessed individuals with brooms and dragging them by their hair. Along with this, it is said many other supernatural incidents also occur.

Where Do The Released Spirits Go?

  • The noisy atmosphere of the temple strangely becomes calm when the possessed humans undergo exorcism rituals and the spirit is set free.
  • There are huge banyan trees at the Malajpur Ghost Fair and the path that leads up to these trees is surprisingly empty, always.
  • Apparently, the leaves of the banyan tree are where the spirits are captured after they are set free.
  • No one dares to walk on the pathways. People in Malajpur believe that this is the way from where the spirits make their way to the banyan tree.
