You will no longer have to take the Shatabdi to Dehradun anymore and road trips won’t give you a back ache; because a new elevated road recently got a nod from the govt. This route will not only be an expressway, but will also cut the travel time to 2 hours and 30 minutes!
What Is It?
Uttarakhand has become an extremely popular getaway for Delhiites. Those who want to escape to the hills for a little while, that’s the best spot. However, one thing that often ends up being a hurdle is the road to Dehradun. Poorly maintained, it makes it impossible to reach the capital of Uttarakhand in less than 6 hours.

A new expressway has recently got a nod from the govt., which will not only reduce the distance from 250kms to 180kms, but will also cut the travel time to 2 and a half hours. The current road passes through three cities: Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee; the new one will pass through two: Baghpat and Saharanpur.
What’s More?
If you are planning your next weekend trip already then you’ll have to hold that thought. The construction has got a nod for now. It will be completed in three phases and wis expected to take more than a couple of years to get completed; and be operational by 2022.

Don’t feel bad just yet. You can still visit the gorgeous city of Dehradun and then take a road-trip further to Mussoorie. Though we advise you not to do during peak season because then you would end up spending more time in the traffic than the destination itself.
