Cricket is not just a sport for millions. It is worshipped as a religion in India and many places and enthusiasts are clearly obsessed with it all around the world. Cricket is no less than an emotion for fans and the biggest proof of its impact is a group of South African fans who visited Kolkata yesterday to watch their team play against India. The iconic Eden Gardens hosted the much-awaited clash between India and Proteas. Both teams are showing impeccable performances on the field and igniting the hope of their fans by heading a step closer to the glorious World Cup trophy. India being the venue, it is a no-brainer that the crowd in every Indian match will be bleeding blue. But there were some South African cricket fans as well who flew from their nation to Kolkata to cheer, support, and see their team playing against India at the Eden Gardens.

In between the sea of blue jerseys with almost 70,000 spectators, there were some cricket fans in green jerseys waving their country’s flag. They travelled a long distance of about 9,000 km from different cities of South Africa to Kolkata, according to a report by The Times of India. They planned this long journey with a wish to see the Proteas clinch a win against India but unfortunately, the results were not in their favour.

But that was not the end of all the experiences. Though their excitement turned to disappointment, they had a good time at Eden Gardens with other fans watching the match. Some fans even cheered for both India and South Africa yesterday. Everyone came together to wish Virat Kohli a happy birthday and shout in joy after seeing his 49th ODI century

Both India and South Africa played their 8th match of the marquee tournament yesterday. India did not lose a single match before facing the Proteas. On the other hand, the Men in Green lost only 1 match out of 7. It was an intense match of the top 2 teams of the table and India’s sheer dominance on the field was a treat to watch. Be it Virat Kohli’s record-breaking century, Ravindra Jadeja’s historical fifer, Rohit Sharma’s terrific start, or Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav taking wickets like a child’s play, the match was won by the Men in Blue in every way possible.

India and South Africa are now the only two teams that have entered the sem-finals of the ongoing World Cup. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata are all set to host the prestigious first and second semi-finals respectively. Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is going to host the final on November 19, 2023.
