The fight against COVID-19 is a long and tiresome one. Countries around the globe have spent huge amounts of man and material to combat this deadly virus. In Spain, more than 500 people died in one day. Medical professionals are working tirelessly to treat infected patients and reduce the spread of the virus, putting their own lives at risk. Since early detection is an effective way to contain COVID-19, Spain has decided to deploy robots to assist medical professionals in conducting thousands of tests to detect the virus well in advance.
What’s In It?
According to a new report, Spain will be bringing a fleet of robots onboard for the coronavirus testing. The idea behind this move is to reduce the risk of exposure to the already worn out medical workforce in the country. Day by day many doctors and nurses have been getting infected from patients. Once robots are deployed for early testing, medical staff can focus their energies on treating patients rather than just conducting tests.
Raquel Yotti, head of Madrid-based Health Institute Carlos III, Spain, discussed this plan during a health ministry press conference. He stated that the plan to automate testing through robots has already been designed. Four robots which will be deployed and will be able to carry out around 80,000 tests per day.
