Spartan Race Returns To Al Ain Zoo With Elephants, Giraffes And Wildlife In The Audience

Obstacle racing is heading back into the wild. Spartan, the world’s leading obstacle course race (OCR) brand, returns to Al Ain Zoo on Saturday, 10 October 2026, for a full day of racing that brings together elite athletes, seasoned Spartans, first-timers and kids under one roof or rather, one very large outdoor course.

Sprint, Super and Kids: The Full Race Lineup

The day is built around three formats. The Spartan Sprint is a 5km course with 20 of the brand’s signature obstacles, testing speed, strength, and technical skill in roughly equal measure. Step it up and there’s the Spartan Super, a tougher 10km course with 25 obstacles that leans harder on endurance and mental grit. For the youngest competitors, Spartan Kids offers 1km, 1.5km and 3km courses designed to be challenging but supportive, a proper introduction to obstacle racing without the intimidation factor.

On race day, the Sprint will run across Competitive Elite, Age Group, and Open waves; the Super will run as Open waves; and the Kids races will cover all three distances.

Racing Through the Wild & What To Expect On Course

What sets this edition apart from a standard OCR is the setting. The course winds through the grounds of Al Ain Zoo, meaning competitors will be crawling under nets, hauling sandbags and hurdling walls with elephants, giraffes and other wildlife visible and audible nearby. It’s a genuinely unusual backdrop for a race, and one that turns what could be a standard obstacle course into something closer to a day out at the zoo if the zoo also involved rope climbs and mud pits.

Why Al Ain Zoo Is Becoming a Spartan Racing Hub

This isn’t a one-off. The event is held with the support of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), building on a partnership that’s already helped grow Spartan’s footprint across the emirate, most notably through the Spartan World Championship in Abu Dhabi, which has drawn more than 6,500 participants. That track record suggests Al Ain Zoo is settling in as a regular fixture on the region’s obstacle racing calendar, not just a novelty location.

Whether you’re chasing a podium finish, ticking off a first Spartan race, or bringing the kids along for their own course, 10 October looks set to be a busy one at Al Ain Zoo. Registration is open now, and given how quickly Spartan events tend to fill up in the UAE, signing up early is worth doing sooner rather than later.
