SpiceJet Flight To Varanasi Delayed By 8 Hours; Passengers & Airport Staff Argue

Don’t you just hate it when flights get delayed? You’re left with no choice but to find innovative ways to while away time at the airport and even spend extra bucks satiating your hunger with exorbitantly priced airport snacks. Well, the passengers flying on SpiceJet Ahmedabad to Varanasi flight on August 24 were left frustrated after their flight was delayed by 8 hours. Read on to know what happened.

Flight Was Delayed As Runway Was Shut For Repairs

A fight broke off at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport between passengers and airport personnel on August 24. This was because the SpiceJet flight flying from Ahmedabad to Varanasi was delayed by 8 hours. According to authorities at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) the flight delay was caused by a network issue. Apparently, the main runway was closed for repairs from 11 am to 3 pm. So pilots received a NOTAM ( Notice to Airmen) for the same.

Network Issue Caused Further Delay

So, the NOTAM shifted the flight schedule to 3 pm instead of 10:30 pm. Then again due to a network issue it was further delayed to 7 pm. So, a flight that was supposed to fly off to Varanasi at 10:30 am, finally took off at 7 pm. Now, that’s a massive delay. Passengers were furious but the airport officials were able to calm the situation. And a DGCA official announced that they will receive compensation for the same.
