Swiggy, one of India’s top food delivery platforms, has taken a big step towards supporting the country’s gig economy. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour and Employment to post gig job opportunities on the National Career Service (NCS) portal. Through this partnership, Swiggy aims to create up to 12 lakh gig jobs in the coming years.

This initiative will allow Swiggy to post thousands of delivery partner openings on the government-run NCS portal. The NCS platform, launched in 2015, is a digital bridge between job seekers and employers across various sectors.
By listing its delivery jobs on this platform, Swiggy is helping gig workers across India gain access to verified and flexible employment. The move particularly benefits people in smaller towns and rural areas, where they often lack formal job opportunities.
Swiggy’s move is in line with its commitment to empower individuals through flexible work arrangements. These gig job opportunities can offer financial independence to youth, students, homemakers, and others seeking part-time roles.

This partnership positively shifts how India recognises gig work. Gig workers—such as delivery personnel, freelancers, and ride-share drivers—play a crucial role in the modern economy. Yet they often remain outside formal employment frameworks.
By collaborating with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Swiggy is helping bring gig jobs into the spotlight. It adds credibility to gig roles and boosts the confidence of workers who rely on such jobs for their livelihoods.
