The speedboat rides from Mumbai’s Gateway of India that take passengers to Alibaug and Elephanta Caves are all set to get cheaper. This means tourists who usually pay ₹600-800 per person may soon have to shell out less money for a ride. Here’s how the fare price is expected to drop.
Speedboat Rides From Gateway Of India To Get Cheaper
A speedboat from Mumbai’s Gateway of India is a fast and shared motorboat that takes tourists from the famous landmark across the sea to places like Alibaug and the Elephanta Caves. The rides are quite popular among passengers as they cut travel time to Alibaug to about 15-20 minutes. The rides are quite exciting too, offering an amazing look at the Mumbai city skyline.
But the fares are now set to drop. According to The Free Press Journal, current charges range between ₹600 and ₹800 per person. However, the authorities have responded positively to a demand to reduce the ₹92.04 per-passenger charge collected by the Mumbai Port Trust from operators of boats using Jetty No. 5. A reduction in the jetty charge will also lower operating costs for speedboat operators, which could lower passenger fares.

Speedboats Can Reach Alibaug In 20-25 Minutes!
According to The Free Press Journal, Jetty No. 5, located opposite the Taj Mahal Hotel, has been developed for speedboats and private yachts. However, from Jetty Nos. 1 and 4, people can ride traditional wooden boats. A one-way ride from Gateway of India by a wooden boat to Elephanta or Alibaug takes around 45 to 55 minutes and costs around ₹280 to ₹300 per passenger.
Speedboats can cover the same distance in 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the sea conditions. However, booking an entire speedboat from Gateway of India, with a capacity of five to 12 passengers, can cost between ₹5,000 and ₹10,000. These boats are safe, provide life jackets and have a trained driver to operate them.
