Enjoying a toy train ride is one of the “must-have experiences” while visiting Ooty. Imagine passing through the serene landscape of the town to witness the beauty of the lush landscape and misty hills of Nilgiris! So, as a summer gift for all the tourists, the Southern Railway Salem Division has introduced plans for a special mountain train between Mettupalayam-Ooty-Coonoor from March 29 to July 1. This move comes mainly to attract international tourists to the region during the summers. Read on to know more about it.
Special Toy Train Service Between Mettupalayam-Ooty-Coonoor
In a bid to attract foreign tourists, the Southern Railway Salem Division has announced special mountain train services in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district. These special mountain trains are set to make a return and run between the Mettupalayam-Ooty-Coonoor circuit. As per the notification by the railways, these toy trains will run between March 29 and July 1. This is also due to the fact that Nilgiris witnessed thousands of international tourists during April and May. The toy train will run between Mettupalayam-Ooty on Fridays and Sundays and between Ooty-Mettupalayam on Saturdays and Sundays.

A Summer Escape To Nilgiris…Why These Special Trains Are A Good Idea
Nilgiris is a dreamy escape, especially during the summers. Understanding how many tourists visit this region to experience its summer beauty, the railways decided to bring back the mountain toy train during this period. As per the notification issued by Salem Division of Southern Railway, “During the summer season, many tourists prefer to travel by mountain train, which has UNESCO heritage status. Travelling by mountain train over 206 bridges and 16 caves while enjoying the scenery is an exhilarating experience. In this case, in the coming summer season, a special mountain train will be run between Coonoor and Coonoor-Ooty on 4 days i.e. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from March 29, 2024.”
