Good news for those who are planning on travelling to Thailand! The beautiful country with pristine beaches and lush greenery is welcoming Indians with open arms. Thailand has extended the visa waiver plan for Indian passport holders. This is an attempt to boost tourism on which the country heavily relies. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this extension of visa waiver in Thailand.

According to an article which was recently published by Business Today or BT, this plan will apply to Indian and Taiwanese passport holders. The extension is for the next six months till November 11. Since the initial visa waiver scheme was so successful, the Thai government decided to extend it.

Tourists from India and Taiwan may stay in Thailand for as many as 15 days under the visa-on-arrival scheme. Under this visa waiver scheme, tourists from India and Taiwan can stay for up to 30 days in the country without a Visa.

If reports are to go by, Thailand saw around 12 million foreign tourists between January and April this year. This marks a 39 per cent increase in the number of tourists that the country saw during the same period last year.

Tourism is one of the major industries in Thailand. Its economy is heavily dependent on tourism as the industry contributes heavily to the country’s economy. It makes up around 20 per cent of the total jobs in the country.

Thailand is a $500 billion economy and the tourism industry alone contributes as much as 12 per cent to it. Srettha Thavin, who is the Prime Minister of the country, aims to have the tourism industry rack up as much as $80 million.

Most of the foreign tourists in Thailand are from India, South Korea, Russia, Malaysia and China.
