‘The Office’ Stars, Mindy Kaling And B.J. Novak, Swear By This Ethiopian Restaurant In LA

Mindy Kaling, the popular American actress and comedian, recently shared an Instagram post about her “favourite restaurant” in LA, which she visited with her longtime friend and former The Office co-star, B.J. Novak. The restaurant, called Meals By Genet, is considered to be one of the best Ethiopian spots in town.

Instagram often helps people discover great restaurants, and that’s exactly what happened here. The Office stars, Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak recently shared photos of themselves outside Meals By Genet, a famous Ethiopian restaurant located in Los Angeles’ Little Ethiopia.

Mindy posted pictures of herself and B.J. Novak with restaurant owner, Genet, as well as the food, and wrote a caption saying, “Genet is a longtime friend and a truly amazing chef. If you’re looking for incredible Ethiopian food at one of the late, great Jonathan Gold’s favourite restaurants, please consider stopping in – it’s tough to own a restaurant in LA right now, and she would love the support.” The post quickly caught people’s attention.

What Makes Meals By Genet Special

If you are interested in knowing more about this place, we should tell you that the restaurant is owned by Chef Genet Agonafer. She is known for using high-quality Ethiopian ingredients in every dish. It’s a great place to visit if you are walking around Los Angeles and looking to enjoy some lip-smacking Ethiopian food. Sure, the cuisine may not be as widely known as Indian, Chinese or French, but it’s famous for its unique spices and rich flavours.

Meals By Genet is popular among tourists and locals alike. The restaurant is known for its signature dishes like Spicy Doro Wot (a chicken stew), Kitfo (a type of steak), and Yebere Siga Tiba (sautéed meat). And don’t worry if you are a vegetarian,  there are plenty of options for you too.

In addition to serving dishes from a well-curated menu, Chef Genet follows a hands-on approach and sources most of her spices directly from Ethiopia. That’s what keeps the food authentic and flavourful. The restaurant is located in the heart of Little Ethiopia in Los Angeles and has a peaceful, upscale ambience. Diners can enjoy their food in a cosy and intimate setting.

Genet Agonafer was raised in Kebena, Ethiopia. She moved to America in the early 1980s and supported herself by working as a waitress. After years of hard work, she took over a vacant restaurant space in 2000. She opened Meals By Genet to share the vibrant cuisine of her homeland, Ethiopia.

The restaurant is highly-rated and can get quite busy on weekends. So, if you plan to visit, it’s best to make a reservation in advance. Mindy Kaling has undoubtedly made a wonderful recommendation!
