The UAE is celebrating its National Day. And with the month-long celebration already underway, there are several events and workshops that are happening across the nation to commemorate the day that has a lot of national significance. And the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, Brand Dubai has done something exceptional to commemorate the day. Yes, they have unveiled the Zayed and Rashid Mural! This is the world’s largest mosaic art installation in Hatta, here’s all about it.

The largest mosaic art installation, which was unveiled in Hatta pays tribute to the founding fathers of the UAE. Yes, the portrait features the founding fathers, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. A part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign that celebrates important national occasions, this is a humongous art installation that was unveiled in Hatta.
Created in collaboration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, the mural is spread across a whopping 2,1198.7 m² on a slope of the Hatta Dam Waterfalls. Recreating the historical photograph of the founding fathers, the mosaic portrait has replaced another mural on the Hatta Dam waterfalls. The previous mural also honoured the UAE leaders’ legacy and this one has now officially been recognised by the Guinness World Record as the largest artwork.

The majestic artwork is a part of the latest edition of the Dubai Street Museum. This initiative was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. In case you’re wondering, this public art project was led by Sergey Korbasov, a Russian artist. Additionally, more than 100 local and international artisans from across the globe helped him out to create this awe-inspiring work. Tirelessly working for more than four months, the handcrafted mosaic used 1.2 million individual pieces with each of them measuring 5×5 cm.
The portatit is set against the gorgeous backdrop of the mountains in Hatta. In fact, the skilful artists have used natural materials from the Hatta region, which includes soil and rocks.
