As the third largest air transport market in the world, India has several major airports nationwide. From Delhi to Port Blair, traffic through the airport has increased rapidly over the last decade. India has some of the busiest airports where many people can comfortably commute to work every day. All airports in India were barely active a few months ago, but are now the busiest airports in India.

Here is a list of the busiest airports in India.

1. Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi

When it comes to airport transportation, Delhi remains number one in the country. Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi has one of the biggest terminals in the world. Also, India Gandhi Airport is technologically the most advanced Indian airport. Modern airports currently have three terminals and three runways, one of which is the longest in the country, up to 4430 meters.

2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM):

This airport is India’s second busiest airport after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and can handle the movement of 850 aircraft per day. It is also the 29th busiest airport in the world for passenger transport within India and around the world.

3. Kempegowda International Airport (BLR):

Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore is the third busiest airport in India. It has only one terminal and two runways that handle both domestic and international flights. It handles over 150,000 flights from a single terminal and runway. Over 600 planes depart this airport on a regular basis.

4. Chennai International Airport (MAA)

It is the fourth busiest airport in India. The airport itself is 21km away from Chennai.  The Airport has two terminals and two runways, handling approximately 570 flight trips daily. Because Chennai has excellent medical infrastructure and facilities. Therefore, it experiences the largest influx of international passengers traveling domestically for medical purposes.

5. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU)

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata stands at the 5th position of the busiest airports in India. Every year 20 million passengers commute through this airport. Due to the remarkable expansion and modernization of this airport, it has been labeled by the Airports Council International as the “Most Improved Airport” in the Asia-Pacific region.
