A rainy day in the mountains can be a mesmerising one. Sitting on the balcony of a mountain resort and watching the rains drench the surroundings can be a blissful experience. According to OYO Monsoon Travel Report 2022, Indian travellers have indicated a strong preference for intercity road trips and hill stations. As per the report, Uttarakhand has become the most preferred state for monsoon travel among Indians, followed by Goa, Kerala and Maharashtra. Citywise, Ooty has been found to be the top choice of travellers for monsoon travel, followed by Lonavala, Munnar, Shillong and Coorg.

Monsoon Travel In The Post-Pandemic World

The report has revealed that 54% of respondents are keen on taking a trip of 1-3 days while 33% wish to embark on a weeklong monsoon trip. Working professionals who can avail the facilities of remote and hybrid working models are especially looking for longer vacations in proximity to nature. The survey has also thrown light on the shift in the behaviour of travellers in the post-pandemic world. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, summer used to be the peak travel season. Monsoons would see a lesser number of travellers owing to factors like traffic, road conditions and end of summer vacations. But after the pandemic, people are inclined to travel more to make up for the missed vacations.

Travellers Showing Desire For Ecotherapy

As per the survey, travellers are keen on spending quality time with family and friends in scenic locations. Around 40% of respondents have shown interest in booking properties with postcard-perfect views. A large number of travellers have also opted to stay in treehouses and cottages. Travellers are preferring to stay amid the mountains, by the beaches and other places close to nature. The report has stated that the present pattern noticed among tourists has indicated their desire for ‘ecotherapy’ or natural therapy.
