The Benito Juarez underpass, inaugurated on Saturday by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, will ease traffic bottlenecks for commuters between Delhi airport and Gurugram and reduce fuel consumption. Due to the opening of the new underpass, the traffic load on the Delhi-Gurugram route is expected to be reduced. The underpass will be improving connectivity between the airport, Chanakyapuri, and AIIMS.
Marvel Of Engineering
Under the South Campus Metro Station on the Ring Road is the Benito Juarez underpass, which is 1.2 km long and Y-shaped and starts from Delhi University’s Sri Venkateshwara college. There are two arms of the bridge, one on San Martin Road, and the other on Moti Bagh Ring Road. PWD Minister, Sisodia, describes this underpass as a marvel of engineering. He said that the underpass aims at solving the traffic issues which Dhaula Kaun and Sardar Patel Marg face during peak hours. In total, the project is worth Rs. 143.78 crore and includes a Y-shaped tunnel and a skywalk measuring 670 meters long.

समय की बचत के आर्थिक मूल्य को जोड़ते हुए, ये अंडरपास हर साल दिल्लीवासियों के लिए ₹18 करोड़ बचाएगा। सबको बहुत बधाई! pic.twitter.com/U4HINWr9XM

Underpass Brings In Endless Benefits
There will be a reduction in traffic jams under the Rao Tularam flyover on Ring Road for vehicles arriving from the Delhi airport side. The skywalk with a foot-over bridge will connect BJ Marg to South Campus Metro station and Satya Niketan Marg. The traffic load at the Dhaula Kuan intersection will be reduced by at least 25% because of the tunnel. The new tunnel/underpass will reduce Delhi’s daily carbon emissions by 5 tons and reduce fuel consumption by 2181 litres per day, Sisodia said.
