Pune and Nashik are important cities and emerging into financial centres. It is necessary to have a proper connection between them to support their growth. After the opening of the Khed bypass, the time taken to travel between them is reduced by 30 mins. Here’s what the NHAI (National Highway Authority Of India) has to say about the newly built Khed bypass between Nashik and Pune.
Pune & Nashik Travel Reduced By 30 Mins
With the NHAI opening the recently built 4.9 km Khed (Rajgurunagar) bypass along the highway connecting the two districts, it is anticipated that driving time between Pune and Nashik will be cut by at least 30 minutes. The typical travel time between Pune and Nashik is just over four and a half hours for the 212-kilometre journey.
However, due to the narrow carriageway passing through Khed town, which is a significant market and has the state transportation bus terminus along the highway, vehicles travelling in either direction would take much longer, sometimes over an hour, to cover this distance. Traffic would be slowed down and backed up as a result.

Moving heavy vehicles along the road would further exacerbate the issue because it would take them an extra 30-45 minutes to pass through the town. The Khed bypass project was launched in October 2020 by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to address this issue, and it was finished in just over two years.
Khed Bypass Between Pune & Nashik
According to an NHAI official, beginning in Chandoli hamlet, two km before Khed town, is the bypass for vehicles travelling either way between Pune and Nashik. It concludes in the village of Tukaiwadi, which is close to the highway’s Khed Ghat portion. The distance from the main traffic intersection in Khed town to this entire stretch is around 2 kilometres. As a result, it doesn’t interfere with the locals’ daily routine. Instead, it brings them great relief.

Previously, during times of heavy traffic, at least 10 police officers would be stationed along the 5-km section of the highway that passes through Khed town to keep an eye on things.
