Bengaluru Metro: What Is Orbit Wallet Card For IT Workers? Benefits, Where To Use & More

When it comes to development, Bengaluru is just unstoppable. The city has once again taken a major step to promote eco-friendly commuting among its tech workforce. How? The Orbit Wallet RuPay prepaid card was recently launched in Bengaluru to help employees switch from personal vehicles to public transport. Scroll down to know all about this new card.

What Is The Orbit Wallet Card In Bengaluru?

Bengaluru city has recently introduced the Orbit Wallet RuPay prepaid card for IT employees to reduce the use of private vehicles and switch to public transport. The card is part of an initiative under the STAMP project (Station Access and Mobility Program: Nudging Commuter Behaviour). The project aims to increase metro ridership along the Yellow Line by combining technology and behavioural incentives. Employees who choose greener commuting options, like the metro, can earn rewards through the Orbit Wallet system, reported Hindustan Times.

The Orbit Wallet card can be used to pay for metro rides, BMTC buses, and even make digital payments or shop—all with a single card. Currently, the card is active for metro travel. BMTC integration is still underway and will allow bus payments soon, reported Hindustan Times.

Advantages Of This Card

According to Hindustan Times, the initiative is a joint effort by the Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA), Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), and World Resources Institute (WRI) India, with support from the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). The best part? The Orbit Wallet concept was one of the winners of the STAMP Nudge Challenge, which recognised innovative ideas to promote sustainable commuting.

In talks with Hindustan Times at the launch, Srinivas Alavilli, Fellow for Integrated Transport at WRI India, explained that employees using the Orbit Wallet in Electronics City could earn benefits worth ₹1,500 to encourage them to switch to metro rides. The goal is to make eco-friendly commuting more rewarding for daily users.

Another advantage is that the card allows companies to redirect fuel and parking reimbursements toward sustainable travel. This means IT professionals can now earn perks and financial benefits for leaving their cars behind and opting for greener options.
