India’s tourism landscape is evolving, with travellers seeking unique and unconventional experiences. From exploring historic battlefields to indulging in sleep tourism, these emerging trends are reshaping the way people travel across the country. Here’s a look at five tourism trends in India that are gaining momentum and capturing the imagination of modern travellers.
Emerging Tourism Trends In India
Here are five tourism trends that are shaping the future of travel in India –
1. Battlefield Tourism
Move over the beach and mountain debate! Modern travellers are choosing the off-beaten track to battlefield sites for their next adventure. According to Deccan Chronicle, people are now interested in knowing more about the places where the brave soldiers fought to save the nation. Battlefield tourism is blending history, adventure, patriotism for young explorers who now wish to see mountain passes, valleys, and deserts that once roared with war cries and gunfires. This travel trend combines adventure with respect for great soldiers and their valour. In fact, The Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Tourism has already rolled out the ‘Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan’ app. It gives information to tourists about some of the famous battlefield zones of India that are now open for travel.
2. Regenerative Tourism
This year, the theme for World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’. Regenerative tourism is a step to achieve this transformation and something young travellers are actively adopting. Going beyond the idea of sustainable travel, regenerative tourism is all about actively working to improve the destination you’re visiting and leaving it better than you found. The idea is to make travel not only meaningful to yourself but also the place you’re visiting. Travellers are now helping in restoring forests, supporting local farmers, and even reviving coral reefs during holidays.
3. Sleep Tourism
Amid the glorification of constant busyness, travellers are choosing relaxation and sleep on their trips, and that’s why sleep and wellness tourism trend is at its peak in 2025 in India. Some people also call it ‘napcations’ as the idea of this travel trend is deep rest, relaxation, and restoring proper sleep cycles. According to the Global Wellness Institute, hotels and resorts around the world are now creating environments optimised for restorative sleep to let people enjoy and rejuvenate on holidays.
4. Festive Tourism
India’s cultural diversity ensures there’s always a festival to look forward to throughout the year. Now, people are also stepping out to explore different cities to experience the vibrancy during festive seasons. From attending Diwali in Varanasi and Ayodhya to Holi in Vrindavan–travellers hope to enjoy the festive spirit in cities that are famous for their celebrations.
5. Wellness Tourism
As per the Global Wellness Institute, the wellness tourism market is projected to reach $1.4 trillion by 2027. This growth of this travel trend is fueled by rising demand for longevity-focused programs, sleep optimization, and eco-conscious escapes. More and more people are now travelling to India to experience authentic and affordable wellness retreats that are rooted in traditional practices like Ayurveda, yoga, and naturopathy.
