Indian Railways has seen several positive changes over the years. Most importantly, they have been prioritising women’s safety with various initiatives. She described how two female police officers came to check on her as she was travelling alone. Scroll on to know more about her experience.
Women Officers Conduct Safety Check In Indian Railways
A corporate employee, Purvi Jain, was travelling from Mumbai to Surat via train and had a late night journey. Talking about her travel, she shared on her LinkedIn account that two female police officers came to her compartment to check on her around 11 PM. Approaching her, the officers asked, “Seat 38 – Purvi?” Slightly confused, she nodded. Then the officers asked if she was comfortable and needed any help. They even gave her the helpline number in case she faces any problems.
This gesture by the Railway police officers was surprising but appreciated, and even the elderly couple sitting beside Purvi were taken aback. They said that their granddaughter travels alone, and seeing the safety measures taken by the Railways gave them great relief.
Talking about this matter, the passenger also mentioned that Indian Railways is now getting better. Whether it’s Vande Bharat trains or online ticket booking, travel via train is getting seamless in the country. She even mentioned that, though we are not closer to the developed nations, the small changes are showing how we’re taking one step at a time.
Netizens’ Reaction To This Post
This LinkedIn post has made netizens see Indian Railways in a different light. Some even shared similar experiences. One of the comments on the post read, “I had an experience when my friend and I were travelling from Gurgaon to Hisar, and it was around 10 PM, and it was a general train, no bookings in the entire train. So, 2 creeps were sitting next to us and kept staring. Minutes later, two police officers came and asked us if we were okay. We told them about the weird, continuous stare, and they arrested them. Later, we got to know that during night trains, police check if there is anything wrong at every station.”
Another user wrote, “I had this experience a year back when I was travelling from Borivali to Surat in the late-night train. Lady officers came up to me and gave me an emergency helpline number. And also they asked me to send a text once I reach home. I think after the chart is prepared, they might be checking if any woman is travelling alone and checking on them for their safety.”
