Listen up people! Travel just got cheaper! No, it’s not season or traffic. It’s the government. Travellers are being pleasantly surprised as their money is being refunded. The impossible has happened. Prepaid trips are proving to be good investments. The money that you have already made peace with losing, might find its way back to you.
Hotels and travel aggregators are refunding your paid GST. This is because the rates were reduced and shall be applicable term wise. The 37th GST council meeting was held in Goa on September 20. The highest tax was reduced from 28% to 18% by September 30. A lot of travellers book hotels in advance to avail discounts. So, if your vacation is scheduled for October, for example, you still paid a higher tax. But your vacation should be taxed according to the new slab. Goods and services providers cannot keep these benefits unlawfully and must pass them on.What’s going on
Hotels and websites have initiated the transfers of refund without any prompt from consumers. They are trying to avoid Anti-profiteering Authority. If they were to fail to do so, they would be liable to investigation. Isn’t that peachy? You get your money back without any efforts or pursuit. Just in case, you don’t, you should simply ask.

Savings are being approximated to 6-10% of consumer budget. The entire country can travel with lighter hearts and heavier pockets. As much as we’ve all collectively cried about GST, I’m sure we’ll feel a little better with a credit message from our banks. The tear buckets have been rather full, now it’s our turn to smile again. Keep in mind, this is only for domestic travels. All you rich people travelling abroad shouldn’t complain in the first place. With Kochi now on the list of the world’s best cities for travel, who needs to go overseas anyway. The Arabian Sea is all we need.
