Travelling To Any Eco-Tourism Site In Karnataka? You Are Now Insured By The State Forest Dept

Every time you think of travelling in the midst of nature, you probably think of trekking, hiking, and such activities that involve some level of danger. So far, the state did not have any such insurance for travellers who were visiting eco-tourism sites in Karnataka. This means that people until now were more vulnerable to disaster and accidents as they had no recourse to financial help from officials. This has now changed.

Karnataka is home to many eco-tourism sites and destinations. National parks and tiger reserves galore, there is no scarcity of destinations surrounded by nature in this state. Now the Forest Department of Karnataka is offering travel insurance to those who travel to eco-tourism sites in the state.

The principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) has recently issued a directive to all heads of wildlife divisions and tiger reserves to extend insurance coverage to all ticket holders. This means that if you have a valid ticket for any of the eco-tourism sites in the state, you can avail insurance should any accident or misfortune befall you.

The price of the insurance will be adjusted in the gate fee which is collected upon entry at the location. Many such sites involve activities that aren’t entirely risk-free and there can even be fatalities. Hence, to ensure that such activities have the necessary protection, this move is being undertaken.

According to an article recently published by The Times of India, this particular insurance cannot be used to cover damage or loss of items, properties, and valuables of the traveller. However, if the visitor has been harmed on their trip, the insurance should cover that.

Activities offered around eco-tourism sites like Kayaking, river-rafting, trekking, hiking, etc., are all rife with danger. Already, there have been multiple cases in different parts of the country where people were, at times fatally, harmed because of such activities.
