Being an EU member, Germany is also a member state of the Schengen area. And travellers can travel to Germany if they have a Schengen visa. A Schengen visa allows travellers to enter and exit the 27-nation Schengen Area of Europe for stays of up to 90 days for either leisure or business. Getting around visa processing hold-ups has been difficult for anyone who wants to go to Europe. Germany has reduced the Schengen visa process time to 8 weeks.

Georg Enzweiler, the deputy head of mission at the German Embassy, said that the processing period for Schengen visas to enter Germany has been cut down to eight weeks. In fact, more efforts are being made to further shorten this period. He further stated that they are thrilled to see an increase in Indian tourists visiting Germany.

One of their objectives is to draw visitors from India to Germany, and they are making every effort to manage the associated visa applications. Though it can be challenging at times, he believes they have made significant progress in recent months. However, they still want to make that better. And he has confidence that they can succeed. Moreover, they have hired more people, and he believes that they are making progress.

Called For Quick Changes In Visa Processing

Georg Enzweiler even emphasised the importance of the visa application procedure and called for quick changes. He acknowledged the bureaucratic obstacles to making quick adjustments. But he also mentioned the proactive measures made to resolve the problem. Waiting times have significantly decreased as a result of the German Embassy’s significant staff expansion in Mumbai.

The waiting time is currently around eight weeks, but the embassy promises to shorten it as part of its effort to streamline the procedure. He stated that the Embassy does not want to inconvenience Indian tourists by requiring them to apply for visas years in advance, especially since the goal is to promote and ease travel between India and Germany.

Over 623,000 nights were spent by Indian tourists in Germany in 2022, a significant increase of 209 per cent from the year before.
